How to downgrade Instagram to get back Gotham and all the great old filters!!!

Guys and Gals – you know and I know that the versions of Instagram above 1.19.x have filters that suck. Imagine my horror when on upgrading to the latest version that the Gotham filter was gone as well as a few others and those filters that remained were no longer as radical as they used to be? This lead me to start using a lot of external apps in order to get the same effects. I had been lulled into a false sense of protection and just accepting the upgrade. A little bit of Googling later and I came across the post below onanother blog and I shamelessly ripped it off……. anyway – good luck on downgrading and may you ever have the utility of using Gotham, 1977 and so on… In a post later on I will do a comparison between the filters on pre-version 2.0 Instagram and Post version 2 Instagram and show you what I mean.

How To: Downgrade Instagram – at your own risk…..but I have done it many times…..

I have heard that some of you are having issues with the new version of Instagram!

Until they get things sorted out, here is a way you can downgrade to an older version for the time being…

Don’t be intimidated by the instructions, just read through them once before you start. As I write this guide, I assume that you understand how to sync your device; and remember, always keep your device backed up in iTunes!

You will need to be at the computer that you sync your device with.
Uninstall Instagram from your device by holding the icon down until it starts to wiggle, then tap the (X).
On your computer, with iTunes closed, navigate to the Mobile Applications folder. (Music > iTunes > iTunes Media > Mobile Applications)
Remove Instagram from the Mobile Applications folder. (Depending on when you last synced your device, Instagram may not even show up… that is fine!)
Search your computer for .ipa files and and find an older version of Instagram…
Note from El_Patronella– I have attached a copy of Instagram 1.19 to this post – see the link Instagram 1.19.9.ipa
Open iTunes
Drag the newly found (old version) of the Instagram .ipa into the iTunes library. (You may get a warning that you are going to over-write an older version, that is good!)
Plug your device into your computer.
Your device should show up on the left side of iTunes, click on it.
With your device still selected, open the App tab at the top of the screen.
Ensure that Instagram has been selected for sync.
Apply & Sync your device.
You should now have the previous version if Instagram installed on your device. (There is a good chance the app may have moved to a different page.)

#2bestshots_005 – Finalists

The finalists of #2bestshots_005 have finally been published. The winner will be announced tomorrow….

Rashiq had this to say about the process:-

“The process of dwindling down 899 photographs to 10 is a task by itself, so I had to do a slow filtering process, first by cutting down each down each participant’s photographs to one. The filtered photographs were then randomly chosen with respect to what appealed to me most. If I had my way with the process, there would be 50 finalists, but unfortunately that was not the case and we had to come down to 10. Respecting the fact that everyone has their own style of photography, I picked 5 color photos and 5 monochrome photos for the finals. While I feel all of them are worthy winners, XXXXXX is my ultimate winner because of the photograph’s superb composition, geometric play and the added drama with the subjects and light and shade. A brilliant black and white photograph. It’s the picture that I wish, the most, I took. Thank you all for participating, and again, you are all winners. It’s unfortunate that we can pick only one.”

It does not have to be the one with the most likes or the best comments – anything that makes your eyes and heart zing will do. Post the photos with the hashtags #2bestshots_005 #2bestshots and copy to @el_patronella and @rashiq this weeks judge as he was the winner of #2bestshots_004

The winner will be the photo that @rashiq judges to be the best for this weekly challenge.

The winner of this weeks challenge goes on to be the judge for the next week and the competition hashtag will change each week.

The competition is open now and closes on Saturday 5th November at around midnight PST. Closing time is approximate as I will be asleep when it closes as I am based in Asia. See #pat_tz for timezone info

@rashiq – it is an absolutely fantastic shot, great composition and great colours. I love it and @herbie made a great great and difficult choice. #2bestshots_005 will start in about a weeks time as I am travelling at the moment and don’t have time to get on internet regularly.

Instagram new version – how to downgrade…….

Dudeswho agrees that the new version 2.x.x is a suck ass upgrade? The filters are terrible and they are all basically the same – no Gotham……. Well I searched on Google and found this site http://www.littlefashiondiary.com/how-to-downgrade-instagram/ – I went through the process which takes about 2 minutes and hey presto I now have all the proper old filters back> I really like the new functionality of version 2 but destroying the filters made it suck ass big time. if anyone needs the files for an old version them email me at elpatronella@gmail.com and I will send it to you. I have version 1.19.9 ipa file……
